Clifton Springs, N.Y. - The Ithaca women's golf team used a balanced effort from its entire lineup and cruised to a 32-shot win in the William Smith Invitational, held Saturday and Sunday at Clifton Springs Country Club.
It was another record-setting performance by the Ithaca women, as they established new school records for lowest team score in a round and lowest 36-hole team tournament score. The 351 score that Ithaca posted Sunday was four shots better than their previous best, and the 726 total over two rounds was nine shots better than the 735 recorded earlier this year at St. Lawrence.
Three Bomber players ranked among the top-eight individuals at the tournament. Sophomore Brooke Llobell (East Islip/Great River) was fifth overall with rounds of 89 and 91 for a 180 total. Sophomore Jackie Young (Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake/Burnt Hills) was one shot back with a 181 total, following a round of 85 that matched her career best score. Senior Christie O'Shea (John Jay/Hopewell Junction) had her career-best finish by ranking tied for seventh and her career-best round Sunday with a score of 88. She posted 182 over the two-day tournament.
