Geneva, N.Y. - Ithaca sophomore Cristina Nunez (Morris Hills/Rockaway, N.J.) advanced in the singles and doubles brackets Saturday at the USTA/ITA Northeast Regionals hosted by William Smith.

Nunez, seeded fourth in singles, earned a 6-2, 6-1 first-round win over Alex Goodman from Rochester. In the second round, Nunez dropped the first set in a tiebreak and rallied back for a 6-7 (7-2), 6-3, 7-5 win over Maite Vera of RIT.

In doubles play, Nunez teamed with freshman Becky Guzzo (C.W. Baker/Baldwinsville) to win a pair of matches and advance to the quarterfinals. The Bomber duo won 8-2 in a first-round match against New Paltz and then held a 6-5 lead and advanced when a New York University player retired due to injury. It was the first time that Nunez and Guzzo have competed in doubles.

Sunday's tournament action begins at 8:30 a.m.
