Stevens Women's Soccer Breaks into National Rankings

HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 28, 2010) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women’s soccer team, fresh off a 2-0 victory over Empire 8 rival St. John Fisher College, recently broke into the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/HendrickCars.com Division III Top-25 poll, ranking 20th. The Ducks, now 8-1-0 on the season and tied for second in the NSCAA/HendrickCars.com East Region poll, also cracked the D3Soccer.com top-25 poll, coming in 23rd.

This week, Stevens notched its eight victory of the season with a 2-0 win over the visiting Cardinals of St. John Fisher at the De Baun Athletic Complex in Hoboken, N.J. Sophomore Brittany Odgers netted her third marker of the season, staking the Ducks to a 1-0 advantage in the 74th minute before fellow sophomore standout Gia Gonzales netted an insurance goal at 82:56 off a Stevens’ corner.

Nine different Ducks have scored goals for Stevens this season, led by Odgers, senior Katria Masilo, and juniors Kathleen Schuckers and Sarah Lehman with three apiece. Schuckers, who also leads the team in assists with four, currently ranks first on the squad and third in the Empire 8 in points with 10.

As a team Stevens sits second in the conference in points (52), goals (19), and assists (14), while topping the conference in shutouts with four.
