Elmira Takes First Place at Elmira Invitational
Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College Soaring Eagles Men’s Golf team completed the 2010 Fall Elmira College Invitational Monday afternoon, earning first place among six competing teams.
The men shot their lowest round score of the 2010 season Sunday afternoon registering a first round score of 311. As the rain fell throughout final round play Monday afternoon, the team battled through the wet conditions for a team score of 328. The Purple and Gold tallied a 639 team score for the two-day event.
Elmira College’s Alex Marcoux ’12 (Coaticook, QC -- Champlain College) earned medalist honors for the Invitational shooting an overall score of 151 (+7). The lefty was the low scorer each day of the tournament, recording an impressive score of 74 (+2) Sunday evening. Fellow Class of 2012 teammate, Howie Fleischman ’12 (Naples, NY -- Naples) took home runner-up medalist honors, registering an overall score of 154 (76, 78) for the Purple and Gold.
Brendan McKee ’11 (Amsterdam, NY -- Amsterdam) was a top performer for the Soaring Eagles posting an overall score of 161. Third year player Nick Decker ’12 (Cortland, NY -- Cortland) and newcomer Bryce Hanson ’14 (Jamestown, NY -- Jamestown) also shot in the 160’s for the Invitational. Decker tallied a two-day score of 165 (78, 87), while Hanson posted a score of 167 (84, 83) in his first tournament of the season.
