Utica, N.Y. (12/17/2010) - Junior defender Jeff Kassouf of the Utica College men’s soccer team was an honorable mention on the 2010 NSCAA Scholar All-East Region Team released Thursday. To be nominated the student-athlete must have compiled at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average, started more than 50 percent of the team’s games, be a significant contributor, and also be in at least his third year of school.

“Jeff is the model student-athlete and he deserves any and all recognition he may receive for his work on and off the field, says second year Head Coach Joe Calabrese. “We are proud of his accomplishments and this is great exposure for our program.”

Kassouf, a journalism major who carries a remarkable 3.88 grade point average, will enter his senior campaign next Fall. He has played 45 games in the back for the Pioneers and he has registered one goal.

This past season he helped guide UC to its third Empire 8 Conference Tournament in four years and he was instrumental in securing a program-best 12 wins for the Pioneers. He started ten games on the pitch this season and was part of a defensive unit that compiled a 1.21 goals against average and four shut outs.

Off the field, Kassouf is making a name for himself as one of the leading women’s professional soccer columnists in the country. During the women’s professional soccer season he writes a weekly column on Sports Illustrated’s website www.si.com. He is also the owner/operator of www.equalizersoccer.com where he manages the top source for women’s soccer news in the nation.
