ECAC Qualifiers Highlight Ithaca T&F Performance at RIT Invitational
Rochester, N.Y. – Ithaca men’s track & field team opened 2011 at the Rochester Institute of Technology Invitational on Saturday with a pair of ECAC qualifiers and 18 top-10 performances.
Senior Max Orenstein (Trumbull/Trumbull, Conn.) tallied an ECAC qualifying mark with a first-place finish of 6.61 seconds in the 55-meter dash. Orenstein also finished second in the 200 dash in 23.12.
The Bombers’ second ECAC qualifier of the meet came in the 800 relay when senior Brian Turnbull (Barnstable/Osterville, Mass.), freshman Brennan Edmons (Charles O. Dickerson/Ithaca), Orenstein and senior Jeff Wetmore (Maple Grove/Bemus Point) won the relay in 1:32.59.

Edmons ran to a 52.49 third-place finish in the 400 dash and Wetmore finished sixth in the 55 dash in 6.73.
Sophomore Matthew Kastler (Walter Johnson/Bethesda, Md.) finished fifth in the 500 run in 1:10.92, while sophomore Matt Confer (Webster Schroeder/Webster) finished sixth in the 55 hurdles with a time of 8.21. Closing out the Bombers’ action on the track, sophomore David Geary (Brighton/Rochester) placed sixth after crossing the finish line of the 1K in 2:36.79.
Senior Kyle Devins (Ausable Valley/Peru) led the Bombers finishing second in the long jump and third in the triple with leaps of 6.68 and 13.02 meters, respectively. Sophomore Brian Maley (Ithaca/Ithaca) followed Devins in the long with a mark of 6.43 meters and sophomore Dan Purcell (Sauquoit Valley/Sauquoit) followed in triple with a fifth-place 12.88-meter finish.
Ithaca finished four in the high jump as freshman Brendan Wilkins (Stonington/Pawcatuck, Conn.), senior Chris Stahlmann (Goshen/Goshen), sophomore Rad Arrindell (Fordham Prep/New York) and sophomore Alec Svoboda (Bayport-Blue Point/Bayport) all placed in the top 10. Wilkins tied for second with a jump of 1.88 meters, Stahlmann and Arrindell were knotted in fourth after clearing 1.83 meters and Svoboda finished tied for 10th with a mark of 1.73 meters.
Juniors Jusan Hamilton (Ithaca/Ithaca) and Spencer Barry (Avon/Avon, Conn.) dominated in the throwing circle placing seventh and 10th, respectively, in the weight throw. Hamilton tallied a heave of 14.39 meters and
Barry a mark 13.03 meters.
