Four Pioneers Qualify for Post-Season Competition in T&F

Rochester, NY - The Utica College track and field team competed in its third event of the season Saturday as UC traveled to Rochester, NY for the Rochester Institute of Technology Invitational. Freshman Breiten Balschmitter became the program's first national qualifier in the shot put.

Three Pioneers qualified for ECAC post-season play as well.  Freshmen jumper Jessica Ciraulo won the 55 meter hurdles with a final time of 8.79, while junior Joe Pruckno took second in men's 55 meter hurdles posting a final time of 7.94.  Sophomore Ben Maxwell recorded a win in the men's triple jump with a final time of 13.85, missing the NCAA qualifying time by less than half a second.

Freshmen sprinters Leroy Rouse and Malcolm Strother just missed qualifying for ECAC's in 55 meter dash by a fraction of a second.  The qualifying time was 6.62, however, Rouse finished with a time of 6.64 while Strother came in with a 6.67.

Three other Pioneers posted wins in three other running events.  Freshmen Robert Baird won the 800 meter run posting a final time of 1:58.52 and sophomore Hunter Padgett took first in the 5000 meter run with a final time of 15:46.68.  Sophomore Brandon Rudolphe won the men's 200 meter dash with a final time of 23.07.
