Ithaca Men's Swimming Dominates RPI's Kumpf Invitational
Troy, N.Y. - The Ithaca men's swimming & diving team finished first of eight teams at the Henry Kumpf Invitational, hosted by Rensselaer. With seven victories in dual-meet scoring, Ithaca improved its season record to 12-1. The Bombers paced invitational scoring with 608 points, 57 more than second-place Cortland.
Ithaca swimmers placed first in six of the 13 events during the meet, led by junior Antoine Connors (Spartanburg/Spartanburg, S.C.) and junior Jeff Rapp (Liverpool/Liverpool) as each won two individual events. Connors won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.86 seconds and the 100 free in 48.39 seconds. Rapp touched first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:00.31) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:58.53).
Freshman Taylor Van Cott (Bethlehem/Delmar) won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:01.01 and Ithaca's 400-yard medley relay team of freshman Connor White (Fox Lane/Pound Ridge), sophomore Jake Lichter (Weston/Weston, Mass.), Van Cott and sophomore Jake Robbins (Fairport/Fairport) won in 3:36.14.
Lichter placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:17.44. Freshman John Carr (Brewster/Brewster) turned in a pair of second-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.51) and 500-yard freestyle (4:58.50). Sophomore Chris Cadwell (C.W. Baker/Baldwinsville) followed Carr with a third-place finish in the 500 free in 5:01.98.
Junior diver Derek Rand (Amity/Orange, Conn.) placed third on the 3-meter board with a score of 259.50 and freshman Zack Kundel (Bethlehem/Glenmont) placed third in the 50 free in 21.94 seconds.
