Utica Women's Basketball Cruises to 37-Point Win

Rochester, N.Y. (1/14/2011) – The Utica College women’s basketball team shot 56.5 percent from the floor and held the home team to just 20 points in the second half on its way to its most lopsided Empire 8 Conference victory of the season, 87-50, Friday night. Utica netted more field goals in the first half than the Tigers did in the entire contest as the Pioneers evened their record at 7-7 overall and improved to 3-2 in conference play.

Four difference players scored in double figures for the Pioneers including Jessica Berry (27), Meghan Fiore (21), Katie McGee (13) and Devon Croll (11). Berry made 13 of 18 field goals and also added eight rebounds and five steals to pace the visitors.

The Pioneers jumped out to a 16 point lead, 20-4, in the first 6:33 of the contest and never looked back, holding a double digit lead for the remainder of the game. UC held a 20 point lead at halftime and extended that lead to as many as 29 less than five minutes into the second half. The Pioneers largest lead of the contest was 39 points with 1:31 to go in regulation.

Freshman Alyssa Filkins added five points while Danielle Busansky and Casey Orlando combined for 11 points off the bench. Junior point guard Katie McGee added eight assists and eight rebounds for Utica.

Courtney Tennant and Kayla Wheeler each netted 14 points for the Tigers (3-11, 1-4 E8).
