Ithaca Women’s Track & Field Has Strong Showing at Kent State
Kent, Ohio – The Ithaca women’s track & field team opened 2011 competition by meeting an NCAA provisional qualifier and four ECAC qualifiers at the Doug Raymond Invitational hosted by Kent State.
Junior Emma Dewart (Barker/Barker) again hit the NCAA provisional mark in the 60-meter hurdles with a finish of 19.19 seconds to place ninth in the preliminaries. She also matched her ECAC qualifying mark in the high jump having cleared 1.60 meters to finish tied for fifth.
Senior Marcia McCord (Rancocas Valley/Mount Holly, N.J.) also hit a pair of ECAC qualifiers in the 200 dash and long jump. She ran a season-best 16th-place finish of 26.17 in the 200 and jumped to a ninth-place mark of 5.26 meters in the long.
In the 800 run, junior Heidi Baumbach (Lake Placid/Lake Placid) surpassed the ECAC mark with a time of 5:13.47, while sophomore Jenn Randall (Cincinnatus Central/Cincinnatus) hit the state “A” qualifier in the 800 run in 2:23.50.
Senior Liz Schloss (Canterbury/Fort Wayne, Ind.) finished seventh in the 3,000 run and senior Caitlin Campbell (Essex/Essex, Vt.) crossed the line 16th with times of 10:59.54 and 11:27.66, respectively. Sophomore Megan Schenk (Brick Township/Brick, N.J.) followed Baumbach in the mile with a 19th-place 5:40.66 finish.
Sophomore Amanda Rissmeyer (Watchung/Millington, N.J.) finished tied for 14th in the high jump after clearing 1.55 meters, while senior Lindsay Johnston (Jonathan Law/Milford, Ct.) recorded a 19th-place finish in the triple of 10.02 meters and senior Katie Middleton (Pinkerton Academy/Derry, N.H.) finished 20th in the weight with a heave of 12.53 meters.
Ithaca’s 1,600 relay of freshman Martyann Chromik (Naugatuck/Naugatuck, Conn.), Dewart, McCord and sophomore Katie Edwards led the Bombers to a 4:18.46 15th-place finish.
