Ithaca Women's Swimming Maintains Perfect Record

Fredonia, N.Y. – The Ithaca women's swimming & diving team maintained its perfect record (9-0) with wins over Fredonia and Nazareth in a tri-meet Saturday hosted by Fredonia. Ithaca defeated Fredonia 192-108 and outscored Nazareth 214-82.

Senior Sheila Rhoades (Dryden/Dryden) swept the sprint freestyle events. She won the 50-yard free in 24.84 seconds, the 100 free in 53.13 seconds and the 200 free in 1:56.71. Rhoades' time in the 100 free established a pool record, bettering the previous best time, which Rhoades also held.

Sophomore Carly Jones (Liverpool/Liverpool) won two individual events. She placed first in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:00.21 and the 200-yard individual medley in 2:13.94. Three other Bombers won individual events. Junior Missy Keesler (Endicott/Union-Endicott) won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:15.87, freshman Kate Sessler (Livonia/Livonia) won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:26.98 and sophomore Madi Sherry (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.02. Keesler was second in the 100 back (1:04.36) and Sherry was third in the 200 breast (2:37.03).

On the diving boards, graduate student Naomi Mark (Dansville/Dansville) placed second on 1-meter with a score of 22.30 and junior Jodi Costello (Framingham/Framingham, Mass.) was second on 3-meter with a score of 234.50.

Other top performances by the Bombers included second-place finishes by freshman Lindsey Davenport (Ithaca/Newfield) in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:23.50) and freshman Carlene Ostromecki (Boyertown/Gilbertsville, Pa.) in the 200-yard backstroke (2:15.95).

Ithaca began the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay (1:52.74) behind the efforts of Ostromecki, Sherry, Jones and Sessler and capped the meet with a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:42.38) by Rhoades, senior Joanna Ferreri (Niskayuna/Niskayuna), freshman Elizabeth Gaw (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) and Sessler.
