St. John Fisher Men's Basketball Downs R.I.T.
The St. John Fisher College men’s basketball team moved into a tie for first place in the Empire 8 Conference standings with a 60-44 win over visiting Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday at Fisher’s Bobby Wanzer Court.
With the win, Fisher improves to 10-7 overall and 6-2 in the Empire 8. The Cardinals are 9-2 in their last 11 games. R.I.T. drops to 7-9, 4-3.
Fisher shot 46.7% from the floor for the game, including 52.4% in the second half. The Cardinals also dominated the glass, finishing with a 47-24 advantage on the boards. R.I.T. shot 24.1% from the floor, including just 18.5% (5-for-27) in the first half.
With the game tied at 13-13 just nine minutes in, Fisher used a 14-3 run over the next 10 minutes to take the lead for good and enjoyed a 27-18 advantage at intermission.
The Tigers trimmed Fisher’s lead down to seven points at 31-24 with 18:04 left, but the Cardinals responded with a 13-0 spurt over the next four minutes, pushing their lead to 20 and never looked back.
Jason Norsen led the Cardinals with 15 points and 10 rebounds. It was his first double-double of the season and the second of his career. Brandon Wittetotaled 13 points and seven rebounds. Jordan Gettings chipped in with seven points, six rebounds and five assists.
