Ithaca, N.Y. -- Senior Kyle Devins (Ausable Valley/Peru) performance in the long jump highlighted the Bombers’ men’s track & field showing at the Cornell Upstate Challenge on Saturday. Devins finished fourth in the event with an NCAA provisional mark of 6.94 meters.

Other top finishers in the field events included three top-10 performances in the weight throw. Junior Jusan Hamilton (Ithaca/Ithaca) finished fourth in the event with a personal-best heave of 14.47 meters good to meet the NYSCTC “A” standard, while junior Spencer Barry (Avon/Avon, Conn.) met the same standard with a 14.37-meter mark to finish fifth. Senior Paul Helm (Algonquin/Southborough, Mass.) placed eighth in the weight with a throw of 13.64 meters.

The Bombers saw two place in the 3,000-meter run as senior A.J. McConville (Haldane/Cold Spring) ran to a career-best time of 9.05.86 seconds to meet the state “B” standard and finish fifth, while sophomore Mark Vorensky (Metuchen/Metuchen, N.J.) followed in seventh crossing the line in 9:23.70.

In the 800 run, sophomore Matthew Kastler (Walter Johnson/Bethesda, Md.) and freshman Sam Horwath (Kutztown/Kutztown, Pa.) recorded ninth- and 10th-place finishes with times of 2:04.41 and 2:09.01, respectively.

Rounding out all top-10 performances were freshman Brendan Wilkins (Stonington/Pawcatuck, Conn.) and senior Chris Stahlmann (Goshen/Goshen) in the high jump. The pair placed ninth and 10th, respectively, after clearing 1.84 meters. Fewer misses helped Wilkins edge Stahlmann with a judge’s decision.

Ithaca will next compete on Sunday, Jan. 30 at the Empire 8 Indoor Championships hosted by RIT.
