Nazareth Dunks Utica in Men's Swimming
Golden Flyers win 162-90
UTICA, N.Y. -- Freshman Justin Sawran was part of four winning events Saturday as Nazareth secured its second men's swimming win of the season by defeating host Utica, 162-90. Nazareth also won the women's meet, 207-69.
Swaran finished first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.92), the 200-yard butterfly (2:16.27), the 500-yard freestyle (5:17.10) and was on the winning 400-yard free relay team, which also included junior Dan Walton, sophomore Mike Bidwell and junior Jeremy Hudak.
Other first-place finishers were Bidwell in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.61) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:32.51); Walton in the 100-yard butterfly (:57.68); sophomore Jacob Kline in the 200-yard backstroke (2:05.09) and the 200-yard IM (2:09.55) and sophomore Josh Haak in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:08.73).
Nazareth also won the 200-yard medley relay with Kline, Bidwell, Walton and Hudak.
In the women's meet, Nazareth got contributions from several different swimmers as the Golden Flyers won easily.
Freshman Amanda Rogers won the 200 freestyle (2:09.10) and swam in the 200 medley relay with sophomores Carissa Risucci and McKenna Murphy and junior Rachael Phipps.
Risucci also won the 100 butterfly (1:05.45) while Phipps won the 50 free (:25.43) and was part of the 400 free relay team that included freshman Emily Sauter, junior Rachel Hayes and junior Jaclyn Conklin.
Other winners were Hayes in the 1,000 freestyle (11:44.46); Sauter in the 100 backstroke (1:06.45); sophomore Rachel House in the 100 (1:15.47) and 200 breastroke (2:43.34); sophomore Kelley Anzalone in the 200 fly (2:31.58); Conklin in the 100 freestyle (:57.43); senior Kristen Pedrotti in the 200 backstroke; freshman Maura Reissig in the 500 freestyle (5:35.03) and junior Ashley Palmer in the 200 IM (2:30.28).
