Hartwick Men's Swimming Sweeps Springfield and Union

SPRINGFIELD, MA - Hartwick's men's swimming and diving team improved to 8-3 with head-to-head wins over host Springfield College and Union College on Saturday at Springfield's Art Linkletter Natatorium. The Hawks downed the Pride by a final tally of 144-99 and the Dutchmen by a count of 134.5 to 106.5.

The Hartwick men either won or tied for the win in the first five events of the day. They would finish the day with seven firsts out of 13 events.

Junior Michael Phillips (Austin, TX) led the way with three individual victories. He remains unbeaten in 14 races this season. He began the day with first place in the 200 freestyle (1:47.49). Two races later, he touched the wall first in the 400 individual medley (4:19.93) and he closed out his day with the top spot in the 200 breaststroke (2:15.90).

Luke Grunewald (New Windsor, NY) and Kenny Kleso (Milford, PA) also won races for 'Wick. Grunewald took the top spot in the 1000 free (10:06.54) and Kleso took top billing in the 500 free (4:56.89). Kleso was also second in the 200 breast and third in the 1000 free. Grunewald finished second in the 500 free.

John Wojtech (Bremerton, WA) tied for first place in the 50 free with Union's Kevin Jung in a final time of 22.61 seconds. Wojtech also teamed with Cody Cupit (Nacogdoches, TX), Chris Willcox (Dresher, PA), and Brad Ranson (Pennington, NJ) for first in the 400 medley relay.
