UTICA, N.Y. (October 1, 2011) – In a cold and rainy Saturday afternoon in Utica, the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s soccer team defeated the Pioneers, 3-0, to pick up the team’s first Empire 8 victory this season and improved their record to 6-3-2 on the year. The Ducks are now 5-0 against Utica since 2007 and have outscored the Pioneers, 13-2.

Stevens used three first half goals, the second consecutive game they have done so, to put the Pioneers away early in the match.

The first goal of the day was tallied by sophomore Bridgette Barden after she capitalized on a pass from junior Brittany Odgers in the 19th minute of the game.

Barden would then give the Ducks a 2-0 advantage on her second score of the contest in the 36th minute. On the next shot that Stevens took in the game, senior Kathleen Schuckers increased the Ducks’ lead to 3-0 with just under four minutes left in the first half.

Barden is now tied for the team lead in goals scored with five and leads the Ducks with 12 points.

Stevens could have put a fourth tally on the board early in the second half, but a shot by freshman Georgia Johnson was stopped by Utica’s goalkeeper, Samantha Glocking.

Senior Kaitlin McClymont earned her second shutout of the season and fifth win on the year in all 90 minutes of action in net. McClymont made three saves on the day.

Stevens outshot the Pioneers, 14-7. Both teams were awarded four corner kicks in the match.

The Ducks have registered 20 this season, coming from nine different players. They have also picked up 16 assists on the scores.
