Ithaca Women’s Soccer Handles Hartwick, 4-1
Oneonta, N.Y. – The unbeaten Ithaca women’s soccer team (7-0-2, 3-0-0 Empire 8) put four goals in the back of the net to defeat host Hartwick (2-5-0, 0-3-0 Empire 8), 4-1, on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Amanda Callanan (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) tallied a career-high tying two scores to lead the Bombers to victory, while junior Julie Winn (Sutton/Sutton, Mass.) scored once and dished out an assist.
Following a Becca Salant (Holliston/Holliston, Mass.) save, the Bombers marched down field and sophomore Ellyn Grant-Keane (Lansing/Lansing) capitalized on a pass from the feet of junior Caroline Jastremski (Notre Dame Academy/Staten Island) to take a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute.
Callanan recorded her first of the game when she connected on a corner kick feed from Winn at 22:16 for a 2-0 Ithaca cushion.
Just 2:03 into the second stint,
Winn shot high to go unassisted in scoring the Bombers’ third.
The Hawks broke their scoring drought in the 66th minute, but Ithaca reinstated its three-score gap when
Callanan netted her second.
Salant claimed her seventh win in goal this season making three stops.
Ithaca, who has outscored its opponents 28-7 this season, held a 16-6 shot count edge and a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
