Bomber Golfers Capture ECAC Championship
Penfield, N.Y. - The Ithaca women's golf team posted a two-day score of 677 and convincingly defeated a field of four other teams at the ECAC Division II/III Women's Golf Championship, held Saturday and Sunday at Midvale Country Club. The course played to a par-75 each day, and Ithaca's score was 32 strokes better than second-place New York University.
St. John Fisher finished third with a total of 796, followed by Le Moyne (801) and William Smith (830). Ithaca finished third at the ECAC Championships in 2010.
The top Bomber performer was freshman Sharon Li (Hong Kong International/Happy Valley, Hong Kong) with a 1-under-par tournament total of 149. She posted an even-par 75 on Saturday and scored 74 in the second round.
Ithaca's second-leading scorer on the weekend was sophomore Amanda Failla(Farmington/Unionville, Conn.) improved eight strokes from her opening-round 90 and scored 82 Sunday for a total of 172.
Freshman Kelsey Baker (Hopkinton/Hopkinton, Mass.) totaled 176 on rounds of 89 and 87. Junior Jackie Young (Burnt Hills-Ballston Spa/Burnt Hills) scored 180 on rounds of 91 and 89 to compete Ithaca's scoring lineup.
Freshman Paige Fontana (Holmdel/Holmdel, N.J.) scored 101-95 -- 196 and freshman Eileen Oaks (Kokomo/Kokomo, Ind.) posted 101-109 -- 210.
Ithaca will conclude its fall season next week at the Nazareth Invitational.
