The St. John Fisher College volleyball team improved to 15-8 with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-17) win over Buffalo State Tuesday night in Manning & Napier Varsity Gymnasium. It was the third time this season the Cardinals face and defeated the Bengals. Buffalo State falls to 12-15 in its 2011 campaign as Fisher snaps its opponent's four-match winning streak.

The first game was a battle, with Fisher controlling most of the set but the Bengals rallied several times, even tying it up at 23. Fisher fought hard over the next two points, finally taking the game 25-23.

Buffalo state took the first two points of the second game before the Cardinals regained composure, knotting the score at five. Fisher took the lead at 7-6 and didn’t trail again until the Bengals took the 16-15 lead. Fisher used a barrage of kills from Becca Smith, Rachael Kline, Amanda Pinak and Paige Willson to take the 2-0 advantage in the match.

In the beginning of the third game both teams traded points until midway through when Fisher pulled away. After being tied at 14, the Cardinals went on a demoralizing 11-3 run that halted any rally attempts by the Bengals, sealing the victory with a 25-17 final game.
