WAYNE, N.J. (October 12, 2011) – Junior captain Mary Nikish (Pittsford, N.Y.) scored the game-winner 2:22 into overtime to lift the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team to a 3-2 win over William Paterson University on Wednesday night in Wayne, N.J. Senior captain Jillian Price (West Islip, N.Y.) assisted the goal that came off a penalty corner as the Ducks improve to 7-5 on the season. Sophomore Megan Traub (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) and freshman Jillian Fiebel (Roxbury, N.J.) accounted for the other Duck scores.

Stevens dominated the contest in terms of time of possession in field possession but needed two-plus extra minutes to earn the victory. The Ducks ended with a 19-4 advantage in shots and an 11-3 edge in penalty corners.

The Ducks tallied the first goal of the game 56 seconds in and like the game-winner, it came off of a Price-initiated penalty corner. The senior inserted to Traub out on the left wing, and she blasted her shot into the right corner for her sixth goal of the year.

William Paterson (3-11) found the equalizer in the 31st minute when sophomore Lauren Boegly (West Deptford, N.J.) scored thanks to a feed from junior Ally Hartman (Pemberton, N.J.).

Paterson took the lead on a Hartman marker 10:17 into the second half, but the Ducks were able to pull even exactly three minutes later when Traub found Fiebel in front after a penalty corner.

Paterson was able to withstand a flurry of Stevens chances late and had a shot to win the game 31 seconds into overtime, but a penalty stroke chance went wide and Nikish recorded the game-winner less than two minutes later.

Traub ended with a goal and an assist, while Price had two assists. Nikish and Fiebel each scored once.

Sophomore Jessie Huff (Emerson, N.J.) earned the win in goal for Stevens, playing the final 17:07 in the cage. Sophomore Kelly Statz (Robbinsville, N.J.) took the loss for Paterson despite making eight saves.
