St. John Fisher Women's Soccer Downs Hartwick 3-0
The St. John Fisher College women’s soccer team recorded a 3-0 win at Hartwick College today, in a rainy afternoon match. With the win, Fisher evens its overall record at 6-6 on the year. More importantly, it raises Fisher’s record to 3-2 in the Empire 8 standings and into fourth place in the conference standings. The top four teams at the end of the regular season qualify for the Empire 8 Conference Championship.
Though the Cardinals scored three goals in the match, Laura Burgstrom netted the only one they would need early in the first half, making the score 1-0 in the 7
th minute. Burgstrom was able to finish a ball over the head of Hartwick goaltender Hope Brown off of an assist from Alexandra Rohloff.
Fisher added an insurance goal midway through the second half, when Kaylee Gebhardt sent a cross into the box to the head of Caley Manuel who flicked it on for a Val Hanson finish. The goal was Hanson’s second of the year with both coming in the last two games.
Rohloff added the third Cardinal goal in the 81
st minute, to give Fisher the decisive 3-0 victory. Kaitlin Moran was credited with her first assist of the year on the play.
Goaltender Noel Peck faced only two shots, and stopped both for her third shutout of the season. Brown finished with 10 saves for the host Hawks.
Burgstrom and Hanson both led the Cardinals with four shots each.
