ASTON, Pa. -- Nazareth won its first two women's volleyball matches Saturday at the Knights Homecoming Classic hosted by Neumann University. The Golden Flyers extended their winning streak to five matches and improved their overall record to 17-9 with wins over Ursinus and Rowan.
Nazareth swept Ursinus in three sets by scores of 25-16, 25-23, 28-26 and later used four sets to dispose of Rowan 25-10, 21-25, 25-21, 28-26. The Golden Flyers play two more matches Sunday -- against Neumann at 10 a.m. and against Wilkes at 12 p.m.
Against Ursinus, freshman Chelsea Beecher posted a match-best 13 kills with just three hitting errors for a .294 hitting percentage. Senior Ashlee Travis added 10 kills in 15 swings for a .667 percentage. Junior Aubrey Cooke had 32 assists and seven digs and junior Brittany Crocetti amassed 17 digs.
In the Rowan match, junior Amy Johnson had 14 kills and a .303 hitting percentage, while Beecher, Travis and freshman Maria Allocco each had six kills. Cooke had 42 assists and Crocetti (19) and senior Leah Farrell (11) combined for 30 digs.
