HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 22, 2011) – In the second-to-last Empire 8 Conference match for the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s soccer team in the 2011 season, the Ducks took care of Hartwick College, 2-0, on Alumnae Day. Stevens used one early goal in each half, and controlled the pace of the game throughout all 90 minutes to come away with the victory. The Ducks propelled their overall record to 10-3-3 and 5-0-1 in the Empire 8.

It seems to be a theme for the Ducks this season to score just a few minutes of action, as they have tallied seven goals within the first seven minutes of play in five separate contests. All five on those games resulted in wins for Stevens.

In this match, freshman Mariah Cleveland (Los Gatos, Calif.) put the Ducks on the board just 6:04 into the game off a corner kick from senior Kathleen Schuckers (Lincoln Park, N.J.). Schuckers’ service into the box was re-directed by junior Paige Allen (Manalapan, N.J.) to Cleveland, catching the Hartwick goalkeeper off her line.

The tally was the first for Cleveland this year, while it was the ninth and third assists for Schuckers and Allen, respectively.

Stevens would take 12 shots in the first half and 23 in the game, to the Hawks four. The Ducks also held a distinct advantage in corners, 8-2.

As the second half got under way, freshman Ann Heine (Sammamish, Wash.) took a pass down the middle of the field from fellow Washingtonian, sophomore Lindsay Stoll (Bellevue, Wash.), and beat the backline of Hartwick and netted the second Ducks goal just 5:30 into the second half (51st minute) to add insurance to Stevens’ lead. Heine now has seven goals on the season to lead the Ducks in that category.

Senior Kaitlin McClymont (Corpus Christi, Texas) picked up her third shutout and eighth victory of the season in all 90 minutes of action. McClymont stopped three shots for the Ducks.

Stevens will then host Elmira College on the 29th for Senior Day and the season and conference finale. If the Ducks win against the Soaring Eagles, they will clinch the No.1 seed and host the Empire 8 postseason tournament.
