Nazareth defeats Hartwick 2-1 in Overtime

ROCHESTER, NY - Lindsey Smith scored 7:30 into overtime to give the Golden Flyers a 2-1 victory over visiting Hartwick.  With the win Nazareth clinches a spot in the Empire 8 Tournament and improves to 5-11, 4-3 in the conference.  Hartwick dropped to 6-11, 3-4 in the Empire 8.

After a scoreless first half, Kailee O'Hara scored at 49:24 off an assist from Nina Fargnoli to put the Golden Flyers up 1-0.  Less than three minutes later Hartwick's Kelsey Kimble scored on a penalty corner to tie the score 1-1.  She was assisted by Abby Wentlent.

After regulation, Kimble had a penalty stroke opportunity with 8:52 left in overtime but missed wide right.  Less than a minute later, with 7:26 left, Nazareth had a fast break down the right side of the field.  Fargnoli took a shot which was saved by the Hawks goalkeeper Devyn Staley.  Smith collected the rebound and connected with the back of the goal to give Nazareth the 2-1 win.

The Golden Flyers edged Hartwick 17-15 in shots and the Hawks had a 15-8 advantage in penalty corners.  Staley finished with 10 saves in goal for Hartwick while defender Holley Reynolds recorded two defensive saves.  Nazareth keeper Sophia Rhoades finished with 10 saves to earn the win.
