Ithaca Men’s Cross Country Repeats, Claims Empire 8 Title
Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Ithaca men’s cross country team ran to a first-place finish at the Empire 8 Championships on Saturday at Saratoga Spa State Park. The Bombers tallied just 37 points to win the title for the second straight year and the fourth time overall as they ran to victory in 2003, 2008 and 2010. Ithaca has won all four Empire 8 championships that have been contested so far this academic year (men’s and women’s cross country, women’s tennis and women’s golf).
Ithaca had three first-team All-Empire 8 honorees and another who earned second-team recognition.
Junior Nathan Bickell (Annapolis/Annapolis, Md.) paced the Bombers with a second-place finish of 26:01 on the eight-kilometer course, while senior Dan Craighead (Ithaca/Ithaca) followed in fourth place in 26:15. Also earning first-team recognition was junior David Geary (Brighton/Rochester) who placed seventh in 26:42.
Junior Mark Vorensky (Metuchen/Metuchen, N.J.) ran ninth, the lone second-team honoree for the Bombers, in 26:48.
Juniors Billy Savage (Indian Hills/Oakland, N.J.) and Chris Lotsbom (Walpole/Walpole, Mass.) placed 15th and 17th with times of 27:19 and 27:21, respectively, and senior Tyler Murray (LeRoy/LeRoy) closed out the Bombers’ top seven finishers with a time of 27:52 to place 26th.
