Utica Women's Basketball Team Volunteers at Hope House
The Utica College women’s basketball team made some life changing memories at the Hope House this past weekend.
The Hope House, which was established in 1992, is a safe haven for the hungry and homeless where over 8,000 meals are served a month, and as many as three meals are served a day. Not only does the Hope House provide food and shelter, but they also donate new and used clothes, used books and school supplies to the children who go there to eat.
Volunteering at the Hope House gives the team an experience to interact with guests that teach them a different outlook on life. During their visit at the Hope House the team spent their time preparing and serving food to those less fortunate.
Utica freshman, Marissa Kahane, said, “It was an experience I have never encountered; it was something that has helped me grow as a person.” Having the opportunity to prepare and serve food to people less fortunate wasn’t only the rewarding experience, “We were all laughing and joking around while helping a good cause, it was a real team building experience,” said Kahane.
