Roach’s Long Shot Lifts Bombers Past RIT, 3-2, on Senior Day
ITHACA, N.Y. – The 21st-ranked Ithaca women’s soccer team (11-2-3) scored three goals in the first half en route to a 3-2 victory against former Empire 8 opponent Rochester Institute of Technology (8-9-0) in its regular-season finale at Carp Wood field on Saturday.
Junior Julie Winn (Sutton/Sutton Mass.) found sophomore midfielder Amanda Callanan (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) at the edge of the penalty box to put the Bombers on the board, 1-0, just 2:17 into the game.
The duo of Winn and Callanan teamed up again in the 19th minute for Ithaca’s second score. Callanan provided the assist on Winn’s header. Less than five minutes later, senior Andi Roach (Central Bucks East/Doylestown,Pa.) tallied the game-winner in her final regular-season home game. Roach launched the ball into the net from 30-yards out for her second goal of the season and her career.
RIT managed two goals in the second half, but the Bombers did not allow the Tigers to take a shot in the final five minutes of play as they preserved the senior day victory.
