Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Ithaca women’s cross country team ran to a first-place finish at the Empire 8 Championships on Saturday at Saratoga Spa State Park. The Bombers tallied just 19 points and remains the only school to win the title since the conference began sponsoring the sport in 2003. Ithaca has won all four Empire 8 championships that have been contested so far this academic year (men’s and women’s cross country, women’s tennis and women’s golf).

Graduate student Alissa Kersey (Sandy Creek/Sodus) won the five-kilometer race with a finish of 18:26 and senior Heidi Baumbach (Lake Placid/Lake Placid) ran second in the same time as Ithaca placed 11 in the top 13 spots with the top five Bombers earning first-team accolades and the next six tallying second-team recognition.

Freshman Alexa Rick (Elyria Catholic/Elyria, Ohio) ran fourth overall with a time of 18:54, while senior Molly Quinn (C.W. Baker/Baldwinsville) followed in fifth in 18:55.

Freshman Anastasia Diamond (Pennsbury/Yardley, Pa.) closed out Ithaca’s first-team selections in seventh place clocking in at 19:11.

Senior Molly Brown (North Penn/Landsdale, Pa.) finished the race eighth in 19:13, one second ahead of junior Carly Graham (West Genesee/Syracuse) who placed ninth and rounded out the Bombers’ top seven finishers.
