ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca men's soccer team (3-5-1, 3-0-0 Empire 8) won its third-straight Empire 8 conference game Saturday afternoon at Higgins Stadium, topping Utica (5-5-0, 0-3-0 Empire 8) 2-1.

The Bombers overcame an early 1-0 deficit with a pair of goals in the first half. Freshman forward Zach Hutchinson (Hopkinton/Hopkinton, Mass.) got Ithaca on the board in the 27th minute, burying his first collegiate goal on a penalty kick.

Senior Jon Sylvetsky (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) then registered his first-career tally with an unassisted shot from the right wing to put the Bombers up for good with just 1:36 remaining in the first half.

Freshman goalkeeper Jordan Gentile (Manlius-Pebble Hill/Syracuse) made four saves and allowed just one goal for the third consecutive game to earn his third win of the season.

Ithaca is off to its first 3-0-0 start in conference play since 2008, when the program last appeared in the NCAA Tournament. The Bombers have now won 10 of 12 matchups in the all-time series with Utica, dating back to the 2000 season.
