#13/11 Ithaca Tallies Seven on Alfred, Remains Undefeated in the Empire 8
ITHACA, N.Y. -- The 13th/11th-ranked Ithaca women's soccer team (8-1-2, 4-0-0 Empire 8) upended visiting Alfred (2-8-0, 0-4-0 Empire 8), 7-0, on Saturday afternoon at Carp Wood Field.
The Bombers put away all seven goals in the first half as Ithaca outshot the Saxons, 16-1, and held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
Junior Rachael Palladino (Lansing/Lansing) netted a pair of goals and dished out two assists to lead the Bombers to victory, while junior Julie Winn (Sutton/Sutton, Mass.) also added two scores.
Sophomore Ellyn Grant-Keane (Lansing/Lansing) tallied just 4:02 into the match on a Palladino cross before
Palladino rebounded an off-point shot and laced in one of her own just 46 seconds later.
Seven minutes passed before Palladino found Winn to give the Bombers an early 3-0 lead. Winn wasted little time, tallying another just 20 seconds later in the 12th minute on a feed from freshman Jessie Warren (Medway/Medway, Mass.).
The Bombers put away another two unassisted scores before 20 minutes had ticked off the clock. Palladino capitalized on a breakaway and sophomore Jamie Ruddy (Irondequoit/Rochester) placed a deflected shot into the right side of goal for a 6-0 lead.
Freshman Christina Brownell (Penfield/Penfield) recorded her first collegiate goal in the 37th minute. She picked up a pass from classmate Stephanie Lucidi (Locust Valley/Bayville) and shot out of the keeper’s reach to finalize all scoring at 7-0.
Three Ithaca keepers played a part in the Bomber shutout. Junior Becca Salant (Holliston/Holliston, Mass.) was not forced to make a stop in the first half of action. Sophomore Becca Lewis (Hall/West Hartford, Conn.) and freshman Mary DiLazzaro (Hempfield/Lancaster, Pa.) shared time in the second period. Lewis made one save in the 65th minute.
