Stevens Women's Soccer Tops No. 11 Ithaca in Double OT
ITHACA, N.Y. (October 9, 2011) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women’s soccer team handed No. 11 Ithaca College its first Empire 8 Conference loss of the season in a 2-1 double overtime contest in Ithaca on October 9 at Carp Wood Field. For the second-straight game, senior Kathleen Schuckers tallied the gamewinning goal to propel the Ducks to an 8-3-2 overall record and 3-0-1 in the Empire 8.
Schuckers took three shots in the game, but none proved bigger than the final one she took to lift the Ducks to victory and avoid a draw with the Bombers. Her game-winner came with exactly one minute remaining in the second overtime as she re-entered the contest just four minutes prior to her tally.
Sophomore Lindsay Stoll picked up her second assist in as many games on the Schuckers score.
Stevens’ freshman Ann Heine put the Ducks on the board first with her team-leading sixth goal of the season in the 33rd minute of play on a shot from just outside of the 18-yard box.
The Ducks would hold onto the lead for the remainder of the first half and well into the final 45 minutes before the Bombers knotted the contest up just seconds into the 79th minute on a score by junior Rachael Palladino (Lansing, N.Y.).
Senior Kaitlin McClymont earned her second victory in as many days, stopping five shots in all 109 minutes of play to improve her record to 7-2-1 this season. McClymont did not have to make a save in the first half despite 10 shots by the Bombers. She did, however, stop three in the second half on 14 Ithaca shots, and turned away one in each of the 10-minute golden goal overtime periods.
The Ducks were outshot, 28-18, and trailed in corners, 7-2, but the Ducks put 11 of their 18 shots on net to continuously put the Ithaca goalkeeper under pressure.
