St. John Fisher Women's Soccer Tops Elmira 4-1
The St. John Fisher College women’s soccer team put on a scoring clinic in Elmira, NY on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Soaring Eagles 4-1. Fisher used a balanced attack throughout the game, scoring two goals in each half and hold Elmira scoreless until the final minute of play. With the win the Cardinals improve to 5-6 on the season and 2-2 in the Empire 8 Conference.
Val Hanson scored the game winning goal in the 43rd minute, scoring Fisher’s second goal by beating her defender down the left sideline and sneaking a goal past the keeper to the bottom right corner of the net. The Cardinals first goal came from Alexandra Rohloff in the 25th minute after Vicki Alfieri crossed a ball to the middle of the field for the assist.
In the second half Fisher got its third score just 24 seconds into the period when Laura Burgstrom crossed the ball to Chelsea Oberkrieser for the goal. Rohloff added another goal in the 65th minute when she made a penalty kick for her second score of the day.
Jess Plukas started in goal and played for 70 minutes, stopping all five shots she faced. Fisher outshot the Soaring Eagles 26-12 in the game.
