The St. John Fisher College men’s basketball team opened its 2011-12 season with an 82-72 win at the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford.  Fisher is now 1-0 on the season, while Pitt-Bradford falls to 0-1.

Senior Jordan Gettings gave the Cardinals a 21-point lead late in the first half, after scoring on a drive in the lane.  The margin was Fisher’s largest of the game, as they took a 43-25 lead into the half.

In the second, the Panthers got within six points with six minute remaining in the game after Tyler Ferguson made the score 66-60.  However, Fisher was able to pull away for the victory.

Gettings led the Cardinals with 20 points, while also adding four assists and four rebounds. Junior center Jason Norsen went a perfect 6-for-6 at the foul line to add to his 14 points on the night.  He hauled in a game-high 10 boards as well.

Sophomore Thad Wier also scored 11 points in his first game in cardinal and yellow.

Fisher will return to action at 8 p.m. on Friday when it faces Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY.
