Ithaca Women's Basketball Team Stays Unbeaten With Win At Medaille
Buffalo, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College women's basketball team (2-0) pulled away from a close game to beat host Medaille (1-1) 70-58 Friday.
In a game that saw 10 lead changes Ithaca took the lead for good 8:29 into the second period on a lay-up bysophomore guard Kathryn Campbell (Wall/Spring Lake, N.J.). Campbell's basket, which contributed two of her game-high 21 poiints, started a run of 11 straight points for the Bombers, who eventually led by as many as 15 points.
Campbell recorded her second straight 20-point performance and added nine rebounds and three assists.
Sophomore forward Jennifer Escobido (Norwich Free Academy/Lisbon, Conn.) contributed 15 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Junior center Devin Shea (St. Basil Academy/Huntingdon, Pa.) netted 14 points and five rebound, She blocked three shotss. and collected three assists and three steals.
The Bomber defense forced 24 Maverick turnovers and turned them into 21 points. Medaiille, who won 24 games and reached the NCAA playoffs last winter, led by as many as eight points midway through the first half before Ithaca closed the period on a 16-9 run.
The game marked the first meeting between the two schools; the Bombers play first-time opponents in five of their 11 non-conference games this season.
The Bombers play their first home game of the season Saturday, hosting SUNY Institute of Technology in a 4 p.m. game at Ben Light Gymnasium.
