Rodabaugh's Golden Goal Leads Ithaca To 1-0 Overtime Win Over Undefeated Trinity
ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College women's soccer team (14-3-3) advanced to the national quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship Tournament with a 1-0 double overtime win over third-ranked Trinity (Texas). The Tigers end their season 22-1-0. Ithaca will face Cortland Sunday at 1 p.m. with a trip to the "final four" in San Antonio at stake. Cortland beat Concordia-Moorhead 2-0 in Saturday's second sectional semifinal (game story).
Sophomore Jackie Rodabaugh (Central Mountain/Mill Hall, Pa.) scored the game's only goal 1:18 into the second overtime period.
Rodabaugh's third goal of the year sends the Bombers to the NCAA quarterfinals for the fourth time in five years. Ithaca has made five trips to the NCAA semifinals with their last "final four" trip coming in 1998.
Sophomore Ellyn Grant-Keane (Lansing/Lansing) sent a centering pass toward the near post that Trinity goalkeeper Devan Osegueda got a hand on; the ball wound up at Rodabaugh's feet and her shot was initially stopped before dribbling behind the keeper and over the goal line. The Tigers had allowed just seven goals all season.
Trinity outshot the Bombers 25-18, owning a 10-7 edge at the half and then putting four shots on goal during an early second-half flurry. Junior Becca Salant (Holliston/Holliston, Mass.) made nine saves.
Osegueda stopped eight shots for Trinity.
The Ithaca-Cortland winner will take on either Washington (Mo.) or Wheaton (Ill.) in the national semifinals Friday, Dec. 2 at San Antonio's Blossom Soccer Stadium.
