Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – On day two of the 2011 Skidmore Invitational, the Utica College women’s basketball team held off a late charge to defeat Ursinus, 68-66, Saturday afternoon at the Williamson Sports Center. Junior Meghan Fiore led Utica with 20 points and six rebounds, while senior Katie McGee finished with 14 points (all in the second half), six rebounds, five assists and three steals.  Freshman Sam Stayer chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds off the bench.

The Pioneers remained unblemished on the year and improved to 2-0, while the Bears fall to 0-2.

In the first half, Utica led by as many as 13, but a jumper from Ursinus's Sarah Martin with nine seconds remaining in the period made it a 33-30 lead for the Pioneers at the break.

The Bears never trailed by more than six in the second half and with 1:29 remaining they were able to tie it up on a pair of free throws from Lindsay Teuber.

Utica answered right back with a three-pointer from freshman Mara Newland.  The teams traded baskets before Martin cut the lead to 68-66 with 20 seconds remaining.  After a missed free throw, the Bears had one more chance and put up a contested three that came up short as the Pioneers held on for the win.

Teuber, an All-Tournament Team selection, had a game-high 25 points to go with 14 rebounds (11 offensive) for Ursinus. Martin recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards, while Liz Martin finished with 14 points and seven rebounds.

The Pioneers went 7-of-18 from beyond the arc compared to 1-for-11 for Ursinus, while the Bears held a 50-33 advantage on the glass.
