Balanced Effort Helps Ithaca Women's Swimming & Diving To Quad-Meet Sweep
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca women's swimming & diving team (8-0) swept all three victories in a quad meet against Geneseo, Hamilton and Hartwick at the Athletics & Events Center Aquatics Pavilion on Saturday afternoon. The Bombers defeated Geneseo 174-126, beat Hamilton 193-106 and bettered Hartwick 160-140. Ithaca returns to action Dec. 2-4 when the Bombers host the Ithaca Invitational.
Ithaca won just three events during the meet, but racked up seven second-place finishes and six third-place finishes on the afternoon to accumulate enough team points to outscore all three opponents.
The Bombers opened the meet by winning the 200-yard medley relay in 1:51.14. Ithaca's quartet included freshman Kylie Bangs (Westfield/Westfield, N.J.), junior Madi Sherry (Orchard Park/Hamburg), junior Carly Jones (Liverpool/Liverpool) and sophomore Elizabeth Gawrys (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa).
Jones went on to win the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.16 and then placed second in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:12.61.
Ithaca placed first and second on the 3-meter diving board as sophomore Korie Fackler (Central Dauphin East/Harrisburg, Pa.) won the event with a score of 222.45 and graduate student Katie Kaiser (Clarence/Clarence Center) was second with a total of 211.25
