Miles-Rath Runs Away With Empire 8 Yearly Awards
St. John Fisher College runner Cohen Miles-Rath has been honored by the Empire 8 Conference yet again. After winning the Empire 8 Championship meet, the freshman was named as this year’s Runner and Rookie of the Meet. He has now been selected as both the Runner and Rookie of the Year for the Empire 8 Conference.
Miles-Rath capped-off the 2011 season by competing in the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship on November 19th in Winneconne, Wisconsin. The Wayland-Cohocton graduate finished the meet in 122nd place, with an overall time of 25:25.76 for the eight-kilometer course.
A total of 560 runners from 134 different schools participated in the event, which was hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh at the Lake Breeze Golf Course.
Miles-Rath was granted an at-large bid to the competition after placing in 20th out of 272 runners at the NCAA Atlantic Regional the weekend prior. At St. Lawrence University, Miles-Rath ran for a time of 26:01.5, which was fast enough to earn the bid from the NCAA Selection Committee.
During the regular season, Miles-Rath competed just as well, placing second at both the Houghton Short Course Invitational and the Highlander Invitational at Houghton College. He also placed fourth at the Hamilton Short Course Invitational at Hamilton College.
The accomplishments complete a strong season for Cardinals cross country, which is in its first year of Division III competition in over 10 years.
