Oztemel Powers Ithaca Past St. Lawrence 89-80

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men’s basketball team (2-5) posted season-high totals in points, assists, three-point baskets and three-point shooting in posting an 89-80 win over visiting St. Lawrence (2-3) Friday at Ben Light Gymnasium. Junior guard Andrei Oztemel (Staples/Westport, Conn.) scored a career-high 36 points to lead the Bombers.

Oztemel made eight of 11 three-point baskets; his 72.7 percent accuracy from behind the arc was the program’s highest single-game effort ever (minimum of eight attempts). He converted all eight of his free-throw attempts.

Senior guard Jordan Marcus (Solomon Schecter/West Orange, N.J.) added 20 points, three assists, three rebounds and a pair of steals. Junior point guard Sean Rossi (Sparta/Sparta, N.J.) dished out 14 assists and sophomore Frank Mitchell (Hillsborough/Hillsborough, N.J.) contributed 11 points and a team-best nine rebounds.

Ithaca scored the game’s first eight points and allowed the Saints to close to within three points only once in the first half. A 16-7 run to open the second half gave the Bombers their biggest lead – 59-42 4:18 into the second period. St. Lawrence didn’t trail by less than 10 points again until 1:40 remained in the game.
