Utica Grabs Second Victory in Swim & Dive

Utica, NY (12-3-11) - Six different Pioneers won their event to lead the Utica College women swim and dive teams to a convincing, 151-79, victory over Cazenovia Friday night. Junior captain Michelle Allen recorded two wins for UC.
The Pioneers moved their overall record to 2-4 on the season and will return to the pool Saturday Dec. 10 when they welcome Rochester Institute of Technology to the Utica College Pool. The competition is set to begin at 1 p.m.
Allen won the 100 and 200 yard freestyle events as she recorded 18 points. She registered final times of 59.77 and 2:12.95.
Junior Sarah Parker took first in the 100 yard backstroke with a finishing time of 1:28.76 while freshman Gwyn Joyce came in right behind her at 1:29.64 for a second place finish.
Freshman Kelsey Givens continued her strong performance as she took first in the 50 yard freestyle with a final time of 28.59. She also finished second, behind Allen, in the 100 yard with a time of 1:02.94 as she tallied 13 total team points.
Freshman Amy Dumary won the 100 yard butterfly as she grabbed nine points with a final time of 1:11.58.
Allen, Parker, Joyce and Dumary partnered up for a win in the 200 medley relay with a final time of 2:10.45.
Freshmen divers Sarah Cifonelli and Rachel Wooden swept the one-meter events on the board as they took first and second in both. Cifonelli tallied a score of 119.60 in event 11 and Wooden posted an impressive 193.35 in event 21 as the duo docked up 26 team points for Utica.
