Dunn and Mitchell Named to D3football.com All-Region Team
UTICA, NY (12/9/11)- Junior Matt Dunn and senior Seth Mitchell of the Utica College football team were named to the D3football.com All-East Region Team, Monday.
Dunn, a native of Miller Place, NY, was named to the second-team offense. The tight end was recently named to the all-conference team after leading all Empire 8 tight ends in receptions (48), yards (602) and yards per game (60.2). He finished the season with 602 receiving yards and 48 catches. Dunn now has 81 catches for 957 yards in three seasons and he also has eight touchdown catches, which are both program-records for tight ends, eclipsing the marks set by former all-conference first-team tight end Brian Barth '05.
Mitchell, who hails from Fonda, NY, was named to the All-East third-team defense. The punter also doubled as UC’s place kicker and kickoff man. He averaged 40.8 yards per punt this past season and was named to the Empire-8 All-Conference first-team. He ranks second on the College’s all-time list for yards per punt. This season, Mitchell made eight field goals and 30 extra points. He finished the year ranked second on the team in scoring (54 points) and he placed 12 punts inside the twenty yard line. He also kicked a career-long 62 yard punt and averaged 54 yards per kickoff.
The all-region team was selected in balloting by the East Region sports information directors and D3football.com staff. They were chosen from 251 nominations by Division III member schools.
The Pioneers finished the season with an overall record of 5-5 and a 2-5 mark in the Empire 8, the best conference record for the program since 2008.
