HOBOKEN, N.J. (December 6, 2011) – 2011 Empire 8 Player of the Year Zach Adler (McKinney, Texas) of the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s soccer team finished the 2011 season with 11 assists, the 11th-best total in America. The junior averaged half of an assist per game as the Ducks (18-3-1) played 22 games in 2011. As a team, Stevens’ winning percentage of .841 was eighth out of the 396 teams ranked this season.
After beginning the season 1-2, the Ducks reeled off 16-straight wins and were unbeaten in 18-straight games until finally being tripped up in the NCAA Division III Sectional Final. The team was ranked No. 4 in the nation in the final D3soccer.com poll.
Adler’s 0.50 assist-per-game rate was also among the national leaders, ranking 32nd in the nation. Steven Zapata (Hamden, Conn.) of Albertus Magnus led the nation with 23 assists. The next-closest total was 18.
Stevens has also recently announced that Devin Rensing has been promoted to head coach. The St. Louis, Mo. native will lead the team in the 2012 season after serving as interim head coach in 2011.
