Hoeffner Snaps School Record to Lead Ithaca Women's T&F at Cornell Relays

Ithaca, N.Y. – Senior Jessica Hoeffner (Hauppauge/Hauppauge) snapped an 11-year old school record on Saturday to lead the Ithaca women’s track & field team in its season-opening performance at the Cornell Relays.

Hoeffner was one of six Bombers to hit ECAC-qualifying marks as she placed third in the weight throw with a heave of 15.33 meters (50’ 3.5’’). The school record of 14.78 meters (48’ 6’’) was previously set on Feb. 20, 2000 by Erin Stevens who remains the school record holder in the shot put.

Senior Emma Dewart (Barker/Barker) qualified for the ECAC Indoor Championships in a pair of events. She was second in the long jump with a 5.61 meter (18’ 5’’) performance and sixth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.41. She also finished 10th in the 300 dash in 42.91.

Junior Jenn Randall (Cincinnatus Central/Cincinnatus) ran sixth in the 500 dash in an ECAC-qualifying time of 1:20.24, while the Bombers’ 3,200 relay squad hit the qualifying standard with a 9:53.02, fifth-place finish.

Junior Amanda Rissmeyer (Watchung/Millington, N.J.) placed in a trio of events. She finished fourth in the shot put with a mark of 10.94 meters (35’ 10.75’’), eighth in the high jump clearing 1.60 meters (5’ 3’’) and 10th in the long jump with a leap of 5.15 meters (16 10.75’’).

The Bombers had four place in the top 10 in both the weight throw and shot put. Following Hoeffner in third place, senior Kate Middleton (Pinkerton Academy/Derry, N.H.) finished fourth in the weight, sophomore Elaine Abdulky (Ithaca/Ithaca) sixth and freshman Corrine Taylor (Auburn/Auburn) ninth. They tallied distances of 13.76 meters (45’ 1.75’’), 12.60 meters (41’ 4.25’’) and 11.37 meters (37’ 3.75’’), respectively.

Rissmeyer led the way in the shot. Taylor was fifth with a throw of 10.75 meters (35’ 3.25’’), Hoeffner finished eighth with a distance of 10.00 meters (32’ 9.75’’) and Middleton placed ninth wish a mark of 9.68 meters (31’ 9.25’’).

Senior Heidi Baumbach (Lake Placid/Lake Placid) ran fifth in the 5,000 run in 18:54.55, while classmate Molly Quinn (C.W. Baker/Baldwinsville) placed seventh with a time of 19:04.36.

Following Dewart in the 60 hurdles was freshman Christine Benway (Queensbury/Queensbury) in ninth place and junior Tammia Hubbard (Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep/San Francisco, Calif.) in 10th. Benway crossed the finish line in 9.64 and Hubbard in 9.65.

Senior Julie Orlando (Haverford/Havertown, Pa.) cleared 3.00 meters (9’ 10’’) to place ninth in the pole vault and freshman Alexa Rick (Elyria Catholic/Elyria, Ohio) finished 10th in the 3,000 run in 11:02.95.
