Pittsford, N.Y. -- The women's basketball team (16-5, 12-0 Empire 8) secured a share of the Empire 8 regular-season title with their 10th straight victory -- a 61-46 win at St. John Fisher (13-10, 10-4 Empire 8) Friday. The Bombers, who've won a league-record 30 straight Empire 8 games, can wrap up the conference title and the top seed for the Empire 8 Championship Tournament with a win at Alfred Saturday.
Freshman guard Kathryn Campbell (Wall/Spring Lake, N.J.) scored 14 points and the Ithaca defense held the Cardinals -- who saw their eight-game winning streak snapped -- to nine points in the game's first 14 minutes.
St. John Fisher took its only lead in the first minute of the second half, recording the first two baskets of the period to erase Ithaca's 23-20 intermission advantage. Ithaca broke a 32-32 tie on a lay-up by junior guard Jessica Farley (Pine Valley Central/South Dayton) 5:21 into the second period; Farley's basket kick-started an 18-4 run over the next five minutes that gave the Bombers a 50-36 lead.
Farley finished with 10 points. Senior guard Jordan Confessore (Kendall Park/South Brunswick, N.J.) added 12 points, five rebounds and a pair of steals off the bench. Freshman guard Elisabeth Wentlent (Greene/Greene) matched a career-high total with eight points.
Senior forward Elissa Klie (Ramapo/Wyckoff, N.J.) led Ithaca with eight rebounds, five steals and two blocked shots. She now ranks third on the program's all-time lists in steals (255), fourth in blocks (104), eighth in assists (222) and ninth in rebounds (571). Junior guard Jacqueline Shinall (Joel BarlowRedding Ridge, Conn.) scored eight points and matched Klie's team-leading total with a career-best eight rebounds. Shinall's four assists were also a career high.
