McCord Paces Ithaca At Boston University’s Valentine Classic

Boston – Senior Marcia McCord (Rancocas Valley/Mount Holly, N.J.) recorded a season-best 58.05 400-meter dash to finish 16th and provisionally qualify for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships, while leading the Bombers’ women’s track & field team at Boston University’s Valentine Classic on Friday.

The Bombers tallied six ECAC-qualifying marks on the day, while recording a slew of season-best performances on the fixed bank oval track.

McCord, a four-time outdoor All-American, recorded an 11.02-meter mark in the triple jump good for an ECAC qualifier and 13th-place finish. Additionally, she teamed with senior Emily Mora (Walkill/Walkill), junior Emma Dewart (Barker/Barker) and sophomore Katie Edwards (St. Joseph by the Sea/Staten Island) to hit the ECAC standard in the 1,600 relay. The squad teamed to better its time by more than 10 seconds with a finish of 4:04.11.

Also hitting ECAC qualifiers were Moran, senior Kate Leugers (Rice Memorial/Richmond, Vt.) and junior Heidi Baumbach (Lake Placid/Lake Placid). Moran finished the 500 run in a season-best 1:20.40, while Leugers and Baumbach crossed the mile run finish line with times of 5:04.32 and 5:13.73, respectively. Sophomore Carly Graham (West Genesee/Syracuse) also clocked a season-best mile in 5:22.23.

Dewart hit the ECAC equalizer in the long jump with a fifth-place leap of 5.38 meters, while freshman Rachel Brown (Vernon-Verona-Sherrill/Vernon) finished with a mark of 4.19 in the same event. Also in the pit, senior Lindsay Johnston (Jonathan Law/Milford, Conn.) earned a distance of 10.06 meters in the triple.

Three finished with season-best performances in the 3,000 run as junior Molly Quin (C.W. Baker/Baldwinsville) led the trio with a 10:55.87 finish. Freshman Hannah Craig (Upper Arlington/Columbus, Ohio) improved her season-best by more than 33 seconds with a 10:58.95 finish, while sophomore Megan Schenk (Brick Township/Brick, N.J.) followed in 10:59.85.

Senior Liz Schloss (Canterbury/Fort Wayne, Ind.) finished the 5K in a season-best 18:54.84. Sophomore Meghan Shanley (Conestoga/Berwyn, Pa.) and freshman Mikayla Gaspary (Malta/Ballston Spa) each completed the 800 run in season-best times of 2:26.93 and 2:33.25, respectively, while sophomore Emily McCune (Pinkerton Academy/Hempstead, N.H.)
clocked her best 400 of the season in 1:04.04.

Sophomore Cassandra Clark (Camden/Camden) finished the 60 dash in 8.48. Sophomore Tammia Hubbard (Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep/San Francisco, Calif.) and Brown ran the 60 hurdles. Hubbard finished with a season-top time of 9.77, while Brown crossed the line in 10.34.

Five Bombers raced in the 200 dash, all setting season-best performances, as freshman Martyann Chromik (Naugatuck/Naugatuck, Conn.) led the way with a 27.70 finish. Clark followed in 27.88, Hubbard in 27.90, Brown in 28.62 and Edwards in 29.68.
