Stevens Ranked Third in Regional Rankings Heading into Final Weekend of Regular Season

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (February 17, 2011) – The 18-5 Stevens Institute of Technology men’s basketball team is ranked third in the East Region according to the most recent NCAA Division III Regional Rankings released late Wednesday. SUNY Oswego tops the list and is followed by the University of Rochester and the Ducks. The rankings take into account all games played through Sunday, February 13.

Stevens, 17-5 at the time the rankings were decided upon, are currently on a seven-game winning streak and tied for first place with Ithaca College in the Empire 8 standings at 11-3 .The Bombers are fourth in the region.

In the latest statistical release, which also includes all games played through Sunday, February 13, Stevens is seventh nationally in rebound margin, grabbing 8.9 more rebounds per game than its opponents. The Ducks are eighth in field-goal percentage defense, holding foes to a 38.3 percent conversion rate, while shooting 48.7 percent themselves (20th nationally). Stevens is 26th in personal fouls per game, committing just 15.2, and the Ducks are 39th in won-lost percentage (.773).

Individually, junior forward Simon Smith is sixth nationally in rebounding at 12.4 rebounds per game, 13th in field-goal percentage (66.2 percent), and 14th with 13 double-doubles.
