Rapp Shatters School Record As Ithaca Men's Swimming Opens State, Conference Championship Meet

Webster, N.Y. – The Ithaca men's swimming & diving team advanced six individuals and its 200-yard medley relay to the A finals at the UNYSCSA and Empire 8 championship meet, highlighted by junior Jeff Rapp (Liverpool/Liverpool) meeting the NCAA B qualifying standard in the 200-yard individual medley. Event finals will begin tonight at 6:30 p.m.

Rapp clocked in at 1:53.87, bettering his own school-record time by nearly two seconds. He will be seeded second in the event finals tonight. Rapp will be joined in the A final by freshman Connor White (Fox Lane/Pound Ridge) who touched in 1:57.24 and freshman Taylor Van Cott (Bethlehem/Delmar) who swam 1:57.48 in the prelims.

Junior Antonie Connors (Spartanburg/Spartanburg, S.C.) will be seeded second in the finals of the 50-yard freestyle after finishing his heat race in 21.27 seconds. Sophomore Jake Rob (Fairport/Fairport) will also swim in the A final after timing in at 21.48 seconds in the 50 free.

Ithaca's 200-yard medley relay team of White, sophomore Jake Lichter (Weston/Weston, Mass.), Van Cott and freshman Zack Kundel (Bethlehem/Glenmont) earned the second seed for tonight's event final by finishing in 1:35.43, the second-fastest 200 medley relay time by a Bomber quartet.

Freshman John Carr (Brewster/Brewster) advanced to the A final in the 500-yard freestyle by timing in at 4:45.28, the 13th-fastest time in Ithaca history.

The meet continues through Saturday at the Webster Aquatic Center in suburban Rochester.
