Canton, N.Y.--The Bombers’ Women’s Track & Field team looks to defend its New York State Collegiate Track Conference Championship on Friday and Saturday at St. Lawrence. Ithaca claimed its second straight, and 10th overall, state title last season by winning 13 events and notching 271 points. Live results will be available during the meet.

Ithaca hit one NCAA automatic mark and six provisional qualifiers during the state meet as senior Marcia McCord (Rancocas Valley/Mount Holly, N.J.) was named Track Athlete of the Year and head coach Jennifer Potter picked up Coach of the Year honors.

McCord won five events and junior Emma Dewart (Barker/Barker) three to lead the Bombers. McCord recorded victories in the 55- and 200-meter dashes, the long and triple jumps and ran the third leg of the Bombers’ victorious 800 relay. Dewart joined McCord on that relay, while also claiming the high jump and pentathlon.

Graduate student Melanie McCormick (Champlain Valley Union/Williston, Vt.) won the 5,000 run and senior Kristen DeStefano (Boiceville/Onteora) the pole vault.

Sophomore Cassandra Clark (Camden/Camden) ran the second leg of Ithaca’s victorious 4x200 relay, while junior Heidi Baumbach (Lake Placid/Lake Placid) and sophomore Meghan Shanley (Conestoga/Berwyn, Pa.) ran on the first-place 3,200 relay.

Ithaca also won the distance medley relay with sophomore Jenn Randall (Cincinnatus Central/Cincinnatus) running the opening split and senior Kate Leugers (Rice Memorial/Richmond, Vt.) anchoring the race.

Action is set to begin at 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
