Ithaca Women's Swim & Dive Maintains Lead at UNYSCSA/E8 Meet

Webster, N.Y. – The Ithaca women's swimming & diving team made three NCAA B qualifying standards, set one school record and maintained its lead in the team standings following the second day of competition at the UNYSCSA and Empire 8 championship meets, held at the Webster Aquatic Center. Ithaca has 759 points, and leads second-place Stevens by 23.5 points at the four-day championship meet.

Sophomore Carly Jones (Liverpool/Liverpool) set a school record and made an NCAA B cut by finishing first in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:29.22, bettering the mark she set last year in this championship meet.

Senior Sheila Rhoades (Dryden/Dryden) also met the NCAA B standard after finishing first in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:51.80. It is also a championship-meet record in that event. She was joined in the event finals by freshman Kate Sessler (Livonia/Livonia) who placed sixth in 1:57.62.

Ithaca also made an NCAA B cut in the 400-yard medley relay as the group of freshman Carlene Ostromecki (Boyertown/Gilbertsville, Pa.), sophomore Madi Sherry (Orchard Park/Orchard Park), Jones and Rhoades swam 3:54.52 in the finals and placed second..

Bomber freshman Fiona Mancuso (Hershey/Hummelstown, Pa.) was eighth in the finals of the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.64 seconds. She swam 58.89 seconds in the event preliminaries, the second-fastest time in Ithaca history.

The quartet of Rhoades, freshman Elizabeth Gawrys (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa), senior Joanna Ferreri (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) and Sessler swam the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:37.75 and placed third in the event finals.

Action resumes Friday with preliminary events beginning at 10 a.m. and event finals set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
