Bomber Men's Swim Team Maintains Championship Lead; Two School Records Set
Webster, N.Y. – Ithaca maintained its lead on the third day of competition at the UNYSCSA and Empire 8 championship meet and the Bombers established two school records and made two NCAA B qualifying standards. Ithaca has a total of 964 points and leads second-place Stevens by 15 points.
Freshman Connor White (Fox Lane/Pound Ridge) won the finals of the 100-yard backstroke with a school-record time of 51.34 seconds. That also met the NCAA B-cut.
Freshman Taylor Van Cott (Bethlehem/Delmar) set his second individual school record of the week, and fourth overall including relay events. Van Cott's time of 1:54.08 in the 200-yard butterfly preliminaries was a school record. He swam 1:54.46 in the finals and placed second overall.
Ithaca's A-relay in the finals of the 800-yard freestyle relay placed second with an NCAA B-cut time of 6:52.88. The quartet was comprised of junior Antoine Connors (Spartanburg/Spartanburg, S.C.), sophomore Chris Cadwell (C.W. Baker/Baldwinsville), junior Jeff Rapp (Liverpool/Liverpool) and freshman John Carr (Brewster/Brewster).
Ithaca advanced two swimmers to the finals of the 100-yard breaststroke. Sophomore Jake Lichter (Weston/Weston, Mass.) finished second in the event finals with a time of 58.07 seconds, the third-fastest in Ihtaca history and sophomore Jake Robbins (Fairport/Fairport) placed sixth in 59.01 seconds.
Ithaca's B-relay of freshman Nick Warner (Montgomery/Skillman, N.J.), junior James Sica (Grand Island/Grand Island), senior Steve Croucher (Dallastown/York, Pa.) and freshman Cheffy Tho (Carmel/Carmel, Ind.) placed 21st overall with a time of 7:16.73.
The final day of competition is Saturday at the Webster Aquatic Center, with preliminary events beginning at 10 a.m. followed by event finals at 6:30 p.m.
